Statistics From Some of Your Favorite Social Media Networks: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Craig’s List

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Ever wonder what the “true” statistics are for some of the most popular online social networks?  Well, the best place to get them is from the “horse’s mouth” or straight from the networks themselves…but finding the info can be tricky.  Here’s some interesting statistics from your beloved networks along with the links on where to find the info time and time as they change.  Enjoy!

Some facts about Facebook…

There are currently over 500 million active users on Facebook and over 50% of them log in on any given day. The average active Facebook user has over 130 friends, so if your Fan Page has only 100 fans, you are only one degree away from 13,000 people on Facebook. (http://www.facebook.com/press/info.php?statistics)

Some facts about Twitter…

There are currently over 175 registered users who stream a total of over 95 million tweets a day.  There are over 600 search queries typed in to Twitter’s search engine daily.  (https://twitter.com/about)

Some facts about LinkedIn…

LinkedIn has over 90 million users and more than one million LinkedIn Company Pages.  As of January 2011, LinkedIn counts executives from all 2010 Fortune 500 companies as members; its hiring solutions were used by 69 of the Fortune 100 companies as of December 31, 2010. (http://press.linkedin.com/about )

Some facts about Craig’s List…

Craig’s list has over 50 million users in the United State alone but is available in 70 countries.  It is ranked #7 in the world for English-language website page views and there are over 1 million job listings posted each month.  (http://www.craigslist.org/about/factsheet)

Google Realtime…It’s About Time

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Welcome to the party Google Realtime Search…glad you could make it. It’s interesting to me that Google is just now launching Realtime seach results when I’ve had the Firefox add-on for nearly a year that has allowed me to get the same updates embedded inside of my Google search results.  Check out Greesemonkey Scripts as a Firefox add-on for even more search results fun!

How does this affect your business? First thing that comes to mind is reputation management and brand monitoring.  Here’s a really simple way in one place to see what people are saying about you, your company, your product, your industry…and more importantly…your competition.  I didn’t capture it in the screen shots above, but at the bottom of the Realtime Search results there is a link to “Create an email alert” for your search.  This way, you can get an email each and every time your keyword search is mentioned in a Tweet or a Facebook status update.  (This might be a good time to check the privacy/security settings on your personal Facebook Profile.)

New Navigation and Filtering: Here’s the breakdown.  We’ve been seeing little updates here and there to Google’s interface and it seems like they’re on a roll with more each day.  If you hadn’t noticed, the left-side navigation menu on the Google search results page is what’s gotten the biggest face lift.

But wait, there’s MORE: Once you click on the “More” link, you’ll be able to see the full list of options available for filtering your search. Now, “Updates” is one of those options.  There’s fun little icons for each one.  Notice the little red pin drop for maps which also matches the new icon for Google Places. (Have you claimed your business listing on Google Places yet?) Keep poking around and you’ll see that you can also filter your results by time-frame…as in Now, Current Month or Current Year.  Happy Realtime Searching!

Presentation on social media – What will you say?

Monday, May 10th, 2010

After running a poll and learning that “time” is not the ONLY thing keeping business owners from engaging in social media. Apparently not “knowing what to say” is another big obstacle facing businesses, companies and entrepreneurs from getting involved…or staying involved. In this presentation we will cover over 30 topics to help you “brain dump” some ideas of things you can post updates about in your social media profiles.

Some key points to remember…

  • Dynamic posts that include something other than text go a long way….photos, video, links, etc.
  • You reap what you sow in social media…if your updates are ALL ABOUT YOU or your company then you’ll eventually be talking to a blank wall.
  • Don’t forget the HUMAN FACTOR…remember social media is by its very nature SOCIAL so don’t forget to have a conversation

So, with that here’s our latest presentation to help cure brain freeze when you go to update your social media profile and you don’t know what to say.  If you’ve got some additional topics you think we missed, feel free to comment and share!

LinkedIn: Build Your Connections and Help People Find You

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

linkedin-logo-2Whether you’ve been on LinkedIn for years or you’re just starting out.  There are several tools right on LinkedIn to help you connect with the people you already know and help people find and connect with you.  We found that many of our clients did not know these resources existed, so we decided to share.

One of the best features of LinkedIn is how easy they make it for you to find people in your own database to connect with.  They have tool bars that you can download for your Mac or PC that will hunt down contacts in your computer and tell you who’s already on LinkedIn and who you should invite.  If you don’t have your LinkedIn profile link embedded in your email signature already, then you can find several pre-made and customizable templates.  You can get more info and downloads tool bars, widgets and signatures here:  http://www.linkedin.com/static?key=tools&trk=hb_ft_tools

If you have your own website or are a little handy with HTML, then you will find the following link useful.  Use Buttons, Links and HTML to add to your website, landing page or even other social networking sites (like Facebook):  http://www.linkedin.com/profile?promoteProfile=

When dealing with marketing or print material, you’re going to want to use approved logos and images.  LinkedIn provides several images, LinkedIn logos and screen shots for your use here  http://press.linkedin.com/logo-images

If you need, you can share facts, videos and “About LinkedIn” with clients, co-workers or just for your own reference here:  http://press.linkedin.com/about

If you think we should add something else, leave us a comment!
