Facebook making some awesome updates!

Facebook's new homepage features a login form ...

Today, Facebook announced in their blog that they are making some great upgrades to their site!  They will be changing the way celebrities, businesses and brands communicate and share.

We’re most excited about the changes to the Facebook Pages.  For some time now businesses have been promoting their brand, growing their social media footprint and communicating with clients and fans via their Facebook Page.  Pages functionality and usability has been different than personal profiles.  As an individual with a Facebook profile, you could search out friends, family, co-workers…whoever…to connect to and increase your network.  If you were a business and you had a Facebook Page (not to be confused with a profile), there was no easy or good way to search for fans and request connections.

We experienced this early on when we created our weedott Facebook Page.  We created the page then sat staring at the screen, wondering how we were even going to let people know we even had a Facebook Page.  So, we stared twittering about it, emailing the link, and begging for fans.  After about 2 weeks we picked up 23 fans.  WE WANTED MORE….LOTS MORE.

We’re ecstatic to see the new upgrades.  One new upgrade is the addition of the Wall feature in the page with a ongoing news feed of updates.  Another new one…and a very important one…is the status update feature!  We are doing back flips over this one.  So, what does this mean?  Well…if we want to update what we’re up to using the status update feature  it will show up in the news feed of our fans!  Not only do status updates show up, but photos and videos will too!  This will increase the visibility of these Profiles (previously Pages) and help promote awareness.

Facebook said it best in their blog…”You’ll be able to keep up with all of their activity in your News Feed. This means that you can find out that Oprah is reading a book backstage before a show, CNN posted a breaking story or U2 is working on a new song, just as you would see that your friend uploaded new photos from her trip to Europe.”

Happy Facebooking!
